This is quite a common error. This is not an issue with the Sun ODF Plugin itself but rather it is with Microsoft Excel. To fix the error message this is what you should do.

Follow these steps:

1. Microsoft Office Button
2. Excel Options
3. Add-Ins
4. Manage Excel Add-Ins (GO)
5. Uncheck "Odfaddin"

In older versions follow these steps:

1. Tools
2. Add-Ins
3. Uncheck "Odfaddin"

This plug-in is free to download from the Sun Download Center but sadly the Sun Download Center was decommissioned on July 31, 2011.

Fortunately, downloading the plug-in is not a problem because it is available for download on several websites. If you need to install the plug-in for use on Microsoft Office, try downloading from any of the following:
