          The electronic system a heat sink is a passive heat exchanger that cools the device heat into the surrounding medium.

          In computers this is used to cool central processing units. The heat sinks with power semiconductor such as power transistors and optoelectronics such as lasers, LEDs, where heat is dissipated the ability of the device is moderate it's temperature.

          It is designed to maximize surface area in cooling medium surrounding it, such as air, velocity and protection design and treatment that affect a heat sink.
