My VLC player was working fine until I opened it today.

I got an error saying this:

VLC media player

VLC media player has encountered a problem and needs to close.

We are sorry for the inconvenience.

If you were in the middle of something, the information you were working on might be lost.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software, but to no avail.

I need some help with this.

I don't want to go through the trouble of finding another player just so I can watch some movies in a different format.

Any idea how I can fix my problem?

I think you directly launched a video file by double-clicking, and then this error appeared when Windows load the program that is associated with the video's format. If the video’s format is really associated with VLC media player then there is only one reason why the error appeared.

The video’s file extension, e.g. .avi, .mp4, .wmv, does not match the video’s content. Maybe the video was originally in different file format and then just renamed to a different file extension. The uninstalling and reinstalling that you are doing will not help solve the problem.

Launch VLC media player by double-clicking its icon in the desktop. Go to its option and see the file types that are associated with it. Then search a video converter in the internet to convert the video that you are watching.

Or you can download Total Video Converter from this site: It can convert almost all types of media including ripping of DVD discs.

Convert the video to another format that is also associated with VLC media player.
