The SUM function in Microsoft Office Excel is easy to use. The function simply adds all the numbers in a range of cells. The range of cells to add depends on the cells you select. To use the SUM function, select the cell where you want the output to appear.

On that cell, type without quotes “=sum(” then press and hold the CTRL button and then select the cells you want to add. The cells you select don’t have to be on the same row or column.

Select cells to add

After selecting all the cells to add, type without quotes “)” then hit Enter. The close parenthesis closes the formula then the formula is executed once you hit the Enter key.
