I currently updated my iTunes to the 12.1.0.71 and all my songs are being read from my external hard drive. The issue that I am currently facing is that all my songs a skipping. The skipping is not that bad, just a few seconds but I have used VLC in comparison and I do not have this problem. Can I get help, please?

Since you are using version 12.1.0.71, I guess you need to update to the latest version. Visit Download iTunes Latest to get the latest release, iTunes 12.1.1. For Windows, it supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8. It requires 512 MB RAM. For Mac, it requires Mac OS X 10.7.5 Lion and higher.

If you are using 64-bit Microsoft Windows, use the 64-bit installer instead. The link above is for the 32-bit installer. For 64-bit Microsoft Windows, download iTunes 12.1.1 64-bit. The 64-bit installer doesn’t support Windows XP. After updating iTunes, try checking your songs if they will skip again. If they do, make sure no other programs are running.

Also check if you still have enough RAM on your system for iTunes to use. If you have very little RAM left, try closing other programs running in the background that you think is not important. If you have applications that start with Windows, try closing them using the Windows Task Manager to free some RAM and to improve the processing.

You can experience skipping on your music files if the CPU usage on your computer is high.
