Unknown error (13014) shown while opening ITunes

Hi all,

ITunes won't open. I'm getting an unknown error (13014). This happened after trying to help a friend back up his iphone unsuccessfully. I think, it filled up my start up disc. We had to try transferring things a number of times, now I can't even download a three page pdf.

How can I get into iTunes so I can dump things, or is there another place, where his backup is stored so that, I can get rid of it?
Oh, I have a Mac Book Pro running 10.5.8

Thank you!

Hi,

I faced the same problem after adding some new music. You can fix it by doing the following:

1. Locate and go to the music folder in your computer
2. Now change the name of iTunes to iTunes.old
3. Now open iTunes, this step clears whatever was wrong and creates a new library.
4. Close iTunes.
5. Now, delete the new iTunes folder that the application created. It will be blank.
6. Then rename back your library from iTunes.old to iTunes.
7. Open iTunes.

This worked for me when I had the problem.

Hello Effie,

The following workaround should help you to resolve the issue that you're getting:

  • You'll first of all need to create a copy of the original files before and store it in a safe place before you begin.
  • Create a new folder local, and then copy the iTunes library file to the new local folder.
  • After that open iTunes and then press ALT,  and wait until that Genius finishes screening the library.
  • And then exit iTunes.
  • You will then create a new folder on NAS, and then copy all the new files from the new local folder to the newly created folder on NAS.
  • Redo the opening procedure but this time round choose the library from the new NAS folder.
  • Wait for genius. If everything is successful  overwrite the original files with the files which worked before.

Regards,

Carl
