Since I think you are doing something with Paint.NET when the error happened, just try restarting the program then see what happens next time it runs. If the problem is something more serious which a simple restart can’t fix, try reinstalling it. Uninstall it and then install it back. If the same thing happened, try upgrading it.

Download the latest version from Paint.NET version 3.5.11. When you install Paint.NET, make sure you have Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 on your computer because the program relies on it. There is also no problem even if you don’t have it yet on your computer because the setup wizard will automatically download and install it for you.

Or if you wish to download it manually, visit Microsoft .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1. The latest version of Paint.NET supports Windows XP Service Pack 3, Windows Vista Service Pack 1 and later, Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and later, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1.
