Unable to update Windows Vista error code 80004002

Hi,

I'm having problems with Windows Vista on my laptop. Whenever I try to do a 'windows update' it just shows me the following message:a

Windows Update with Windows Ultimate Extras

Errors found                                           Try again

Code 80004002      Get help

You have Windows set to:                   Automatically install new updates every day at 3:00 AM (recommended)

All of a sudden I cannot search for updates using windows update and my computer tries to install the service pack and excel security updates but same error message 80004002.

I did the regsvr32 update to register all the .dll's but still no good.

There is nothing on the web that seems to help.

From what I can gather I'm not the only one having this problem, but I'm just wondering if anyone has found a solution yet or can help me in anyway?

Whenever Windows Update DLL is registered incorrectly, this error would appear.

Try these steps to fix the error.

  1. Run Command Prompt of Administrator. Click Start, then All Programs, then Accessories, then Command Prompt. Click right  and choose ‘Run as Administrator’.
  2. Register the Windows Update DLLs by entering the command Run REGSVR32 followed by the DLL name e.g. to register wups2.dll, Run REGSVR32 wups2.dll and Enter.
  3. Then re-register/register these files, wuaueng.dll, wuapi.dll, wups.dll, wucltux.dll, wuwebv.dll, wups2.dll separately.

Hope this answer could help.

Did you used registered windows while you were installing the window. that can be  the major problem. some times the unregistered windows can not be updated. if your windows is registered and you still have a problem then check in your update alerts from the menu bar in right side. also check the firewall and other possibility of some kind of virus. if you are having a problem to do that then follow these instructions.

Go to My Computer(Right click)> Properties>Automatic Update>Recommended it as automatic and cancel the notify on each update and also careful while shutting down computer to install update which recently downloaded from Internet.

Hope this will work.
