I have Windows XP pro and I created a new profile after finding out that I had a corrupt one.

The problem is that my Outlook 2003 tries to open but doesn’t succeed and locks up and the following message appears: "unable to open default email folders".

Can anyone please give me step-by-step instructions?

Hi William,

It probably is trying to look for your PST files which most likely found on the default user profile of the previous account.

You can try to use a repair tool that can be access via the command prompt, you can look for scanost.exe.

You can also try to open Outlook in non cached mode, by going to Control Panel > Mail icon > View or change existing email accounts > choose account and click change > Next and then go to more settings > and then advanced tab and then offline folder settings.

There will be the ost file path location change it to the new user profile.

If it ask you if you want to create the file then click yest.

Hi William,

If you have successfully created a new profile in your Outlook then it should not look-up any PST files you have created before.

I am guessing that your Outlook is still using the old profile you got.

Make sure that your new profile has been set to use by your Outlook.

Go to Control Panel > Mail

From the page make sure that your new profile is selected (see image below). Watch out for the "Always use this profile" that is where you will have to set the new profile.
