Unable to Restore Retrospect Backup

I am using Retrospect backup software to backup my system for years. Recently I had a problem with my computer. The restore CD doesn’t worked and hence had to reinstall the entire OS and update it. Then I installed Retrospect and its updates. Later while trying to backup, I got the error 1017. I had a research and tried the available resolutions. Now I am able to complete the backup but with error 8000. Then I downloaded free backup software and finished the backup process without any errors. Now I would like to restore the Retrospect backup and on trying that I got the same 1017 error. I have goggled this error and tried the VSS fix as suggested in some forum. But I am still receiving the same issue. What should I do to get rid of this?

Retrospect will throw this Error 102 insufficient permission if there is a problem with the Windows Volume Shadow Service.  Windows Volume Shadow Service is used to perform open file backups by Retrospect.  To determine if the MS volume shadow is not working, go to Start > Run > Enter cmd > type vssadmin list writers > you should see something as below:

Writer name: 'Microsoft Writer (Bootable State)'

Writer Id: {f2436e37-09f5-41af-9b2a-4ca2435dbfd5}
Writer Instance Id: {ac01d675-561d-4185-a96b-4dae010de8cf}
State: [1] Stable

If the information gives you an error 0x8000FFF you may need to edit the registry which would be found by following the information found here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/940184/error-message-when-you-run-the-vssadmin-list-writers-command-on-a-wind

What is the exact error displayed in the Retrospect operations log when you attempt to do this restore?

I have never seen an error 8000 before. What was the exact text displayed in the operations log for your backup attempt?

Have you tried using the options to restore your data files to a new folder on the disk? By doing that, you avoid overwriting any files and the -1017 error should not be reported.

What version of Retrospect are you using? When you attempt to use the restore CD, what specifically happened?
