Unable to open downloaded PDF files with Adobe Reader on Mountain Lion

Hello

I am facing this frustrating problem ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion OS. I cannot open any PDF file that I download using Adobe Reader. Whenever I try to open, a message appears, from Adobe’s Reader that says the document is damaged and cannot be opened. The files that were already there on my computer can be opened. This issue is only with the files that I newly downloaded. What could be corrupting the files? I tried uninstalling and reinstalling Adobe Reader with the latest version. But this did not resolve the issue. What can I do fix this problem? Please share your ideas. Your help will be greatly appreciated.

There was an error opening this

document. The file is damaged and could

not be repaired.

It is possible that there is really no problem with your Adobe Reader if you can successfully open other PDF files that are already stored on your computer. It is also possible but unlikely to happen that the PDF files you were trying to download were created using a much newer version of a program that creates PDF files.

Or maybe the PDF files have portions that can only be accessed using the latest version of Adobe Reader or any other PDF reader applications. To make sure that the files are not really corrupted, use a different computer and then download the PDF files again. After that on the same computer, open the PDF files using a PDF reader to see if they are really damaged or not.

If both files are really damaged, it will also not open on the other computer just like what happened on your computer. If this happens, then the files you downloaded from the website are already damaged and it is possible that you are not the only one who downloaded the corrupted file. To make sure you are using the latest version of Adobe Reader, download Adobe Reader XI.

You may also try a different brand of PDF reader like the Foxit Reader. The only difference between the two is that in Adobe Reader, you are only limited to opening the file and you cannot create a new PDF file while with Foxit Reader, you can both create and open PDF files. You can download the latest version from Foxit Reader 6.1.4.0217.
