Sir, I am getting an error continuously while copying a file from my pen drive. I don’t know why. I actually copied the file several times from the source and got a message “an unexpected error is keeping you from copying the file”. What I should do to get rid of this problem?

You get this error when the file zipped one you are copying is having a password, or you can say your file is encrypted using a password. And our system is not able to know or detect that it is having a kind of encrypted file in it. To get rid of this problem or to solve it easily just use the application available named Winzip to extract the file.

But when you copy the file from the source you must know the password before extraction. So now just run your file in the Winzip application and then you will be asked to write the password after it you can just copy the file successfully.

If that error constantly appears every time you copy the file from the USB flash drive, it indicates a problem with your drive. You probably need to check the device for errors. Even if your computer can display the contents of the drive when you connect it to the USB port, it doesn’t mean that it doesn’t have errors.

The problem will normally appear when you start to access the contents. If the contents of the drive can be displayed, it means there is no problem with the file structure or file system. But if you cannot copy the contents or files, this indicates a problem with the device not with the data. Even if a file is corrupt, you can still copy it to another location.

You need to check your USB flash drive for errors. Download PC Tools Performance Toolkit. Follow the instructions to download and unpack and then install it. Once installed, start PC Tools then go to “Recovery” tab and click “Repair Drives”. On the next screen under “Select Drive Operation”, select “Surface Scan”. Select your USB flash drive from the list and click “Start”.

Checking USB flash drive for errors

Wait until it is finished then check your files after that. If PC Tools found errors, don’t expect your files to be working. If your files are damaged, try copying them again from the original source.
