Is there a utility to test USB port speed?

Can we check the speed of a USB port by any utility or software?

I want to know about the USB port speeds to plug and play and other similar devices which require a USB port to be plugged in. I would therefore like to know the speed of each of the ports on my laptop.

I am sure that the technology experts here can help me with this.

Hi,

Yes, there are a lot of apps which you can use to benchmark which USB ports are much faster than the other. The fastest USB port today is the USB 3.0, and followed by the USB 2.0 and USB 1.1. Is there a utility to test USB port speed?

Hello Mellisa Wright,

1) First click start and then go to Control Panel.

2) Then you click Device Manager.

3) Now you can see the list, then click Universal Serial Bus Controllers.

4) Expand it and view descriptions.

If you see Enhanced word, it means it is a high speed USB port (2.0) and its transfer speed it 480 Mbps. If you see a standard word, it means it is a regular 1.0-1.1 USB port and it transfer speed is 12 Mbps.

Is there a utility to test USB port speed?

There is a software name Crystal Disk Mark that can be used to check the speed of not only USB drives but HDD, Memory cards etc.; by this tool you can compare the speeds of different devices and ports.
