Serious Hardware Issues with Dell D Family Laptops

I had a Dell latitude laptop which was suppose to be ideal for playing games. After using it for some few months, it started experiencing some problems. The screen went dim and eventually blank. I also had problems with the power button. When I pressed the button the machine does not respond. It only powers on after several attempts have been made. I would like to know why the power button does not function properly had how it can be rectified. Please provide some solution for the blank screen problem too. Have you encountered any serious hardware issues with this particular brand of Dell?
