I have tried to save the Active Directory in Windows Server 2003 using NTbackup utility and upload it in Windows Server 2008. But I am receiving the error message “Restore of this item is no longer supported”. How can I resolve the issue?

Saving Active Directory in Windows Server 2003 to 2008

Hi Charmaine,

The main cause of this event were Authoritative Restore or AD. More issue on AD and tomb stoning. It needs to be with the same machine (same as GUID's) restoration.

Most solution is to restore the system where the AD FIT file located to a folder then manually take the require files.

Go to your server to have a blank AD in place after start up. Press F8 to start the server in Active Directory Service Restore Mode, then double check the Domain Controller. It should have all the roles that needed in ntdsutil command line for AD or Authoritative restore. Thus this mean it will override all current stored AD Data and replace it with new incoming data. The point location is .DIT file.

Its just an overview for the solution. Just read the following https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc961934.aspx

Hope this help.

Best Regards,
