Whenever any application or a service encounters RPC function failure on a computer that is running on Windows Server 2008, the common cause-scan be

1. The Windows 2008 firewall is blocking incoming DCOM packets.Blocking of remote-computer by firewall. For this, we need to configure the firewall.

2.Another reason may be the hostname or the Internet Protocol Address is wrong. So, we need to make sure that the hostname,or IP address are correct.

3. Check that the remote computer is not shut down and is reachable. Hence, to check that machine is reachable:

(i) First log on to the system using data processing account.

(ii) Go to Start

(iii) Then run

(iv) Type eventvwr

(v) Click OK.

(vi) Right-click Event Viewer.

(vii) Select Connect to Another Computer.

(viii) A dialog box appears named as Select Computer. Type the name of the Domain Controller. Click OK to connect.

(ix) At last-select Security Log- A list will be displayed showing valid events.
