I have some questions regarding IBM DB2. I need precise answers since I will be using this for my report. I want to know the difference between DB2 Package and DB2 Plan? Why does plan executable while package is not? What are the disadvantages of the two? And also, what are the different editions of DB2 for Windows? How does DB2 restrict CICS transaction with the same name under different regions that allocates the subsystem of DB2? I need answers please. Thank you.

The distinctiveness between the Plan and package is measured in time. When a DBRM  pass the bind process, the result in earlier days was called as a Plan and nowadays it can either be a Plan or a package. So, plan was what prospered prior to DB2 V2R3 and the notion of binding a DBRM into a package came after a while.  Take note that the Plan does have the "member list" of the DBRMs in the programs of an application. Plan or package holds the run-time directions for the SQL statements in the program. It arises a need for binding the whole plan since there are applications which are more than a hundred applications. Apparently there needs to be a change, so the concept of Package was presented. In this, the all the DBRMs are hardened into packages. And, the packages for an application APP with 100+ called programs, must have a list of packages being used by its programs.  This altered the concept of Plan and specified Plan as a "searchlist for the packages".  A plan was specified as an access routeway to a package.
