Once i click any program or file in my pc windows media player opens.
This happens when i click shortcuts and start button or any where in my pc.
I suspect this is a virus.
How can i get rid of this?

It seems you are having a huge amount of malware attacks running on your PC .
Open your Pc in safe mode first .
1. While rebooting when it shows the motherboard screen press F8 and then boot options will come
2. Select safemode
3. Let it boot .
4. Now go to run through start or for shortcut press win key + r now type %temp% and delete all the contents in it.
Its because most of the common viruses attack from this folder.
Now install a good antivirus software , I personally recommend using Kaspersky internet security 2012 .Â
And run a FULL System scan and all your viruses will be gone .

Your Windows media player might has been setup to automatic play. So your Windows media player runs automatically. You can prevent windows media player from auto playing just following one of the steps I will provide.
1. Please go to service from Administrative tools under control panel.Go to startup type column and find out Windows media player. Please setup it auto to manual.
2. From program right click on startup,then open and remove music files or folder from there.
3. From my computer right click on CD-ROM or DVD-ROM.From here click on properties.
Click on Auto Play from properties. Then action under music files,click on select an action to perform,Highlight the Take No Action and click on Apply and finally OK.
You are done.
