If we want to create an MMC Console on Windows Server 2003 to display the Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP in the same console, what is the process of doing it?
Process on creating MMC Console on Windows Server 2003
MMC console has multiple tools hosted, including the snap- ins which can be used to administer the local as well as remote computers. The windows may already have the files saved as console, search for all the files with .msc extension.
These files are available in the Administrative tool's folder in the control panel and in the program menu.
In order to add an item to the MMC console, simply go to:
Start – Run- and type mmc, press enter.
On the File menu, click Add/remove snap-in, and then click add.
Under the snap-in, double-click the item you want to add and do:
If you want to add it to other computers , click on Another computer, and type the name of computer you want the item to be managed and then click finish. A wizard may open, then follow the instructions on the screen, if the wizard does not open, then this item cannot be managed remotely.
If an item does not open from the snap-in menu, then you have to first install that item. This item can be a program, device, or a service.
This way, you will be able to have all the management of DHCP service, DNS, or active directory in the console.
