Problem using Windows Movie Maker.

Hi,

Help please, I am having a problem while using Windows Movie Maker.

I try to import a file (MPEG-2) but, I get the following error message:

Windows Movie Maker

The file D:TestingTestFile-MPEG2.mpg cannot be imported because the codec required to play the
file is not installed on your computer. If you have already tried to download and install the codec, close
and restart Windows Movie Maker, and then try to import the file again.

I am also getting another error that says “file is empty”.

Where can I download the said codec? Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi Mellisa,

Sorry for your frustration, If you have (MPEG-2) file, you can likely convert this to acceptable WMV format .

1. Import your video file

  • Select File and then click Import Media Items.

2. Export the file as a .wmv

Click the File tab in the upper-left hand corner, and then select Save Movie , then choose Recommended for this project. Next, choose your saving destination, then Save.

Now having done that, continue this step to convert your file

Follow this pictorial presentation and then click next.

Enter a name for your file, and  save your file.
