I'm using Foxit Reader 5.4.4 but it keeps on leaving an HKCU entry (HKCUSoftwareFoxit SoftwareFoxit Updater on the registry).  How do I fix Foxit registry entry?

Hello Julian Battles,

I think that the problem lies in the Auto Update Feature of Foxit Reader. Try to uninstall the program first. Then run a registry cleaner software to remove all registry keys left behind, then install the reader again, this time do not enable the auto update.

Hope this helps.

Hello Julian Battles,

It shows that your Foxit reader updater registry makes this problematic. If you want to Fix it, at first you must uninstall it. Then use a good registry cleaner to clean the registry. You can also use CCleaner. After that restart your Computer.

Then install the Foxit reader again. If you wish you can download the latest Foxit reader 5.4.5.0124.

Then open the reader and disable the auto update option.

Now enjoy the Foxit Reader without any error.

I don’t think you can remove it. Even if you remove that key on the registry from Foxit Reader, it will still be recreated if you reinstall or update the program. Creating that key on the registry is part of the application and if you remove it, it may cause the program to work incorrectly or cause different problems on your operating system.

If you install Foxit Reader but you don’t want to check for updates or you don’t want to update the program, you can disable the checking of updates within the application. Start Foxit Reader then click “File” and then “Preferences.” On the left pane, scroll to the bottom of the list and select “Updater.” Select “Do not download or install updates automatically” then click “OK.”

This will change the program’s behavior regarding updates. It will no longer download or install updates automatically if a new update is available.
