Hi,

I'm on fedora v13 beta. I boot up the pc with fedora beta and then I connected my canon printer ( it's a five in one device) and turned on.

A dialog box appeared asking me if I want to setup hpijs.

I clicked okay, and an error popped up.

Thank you.

The problem here is not on the actual printer but the software it uses to do the printing.

Maybe you did not check if the printer’s software is compatible with your operating system.

Check the documentation that comes with your printer.

I’m sure there is information there about the System Requirements of the printer’s program.

You can not use it without the program.

If on the other hand, the printer’s software is not compatible with the version of Windows you are using, try if you can still return the software and replace it with a version that is compatible with your operating system.

Or maybe just replace your current Windows with the version that is compatible with the printer’s program.

Hi Charles,

  • Issues with the type of printer and Fedora are common, and I frequently face the same.
  • However, what I noticed is that most of the Cannon printers models are compatible with the Linux versions. What you need to do is use the correct driver.
  • .Go to the: Download Link and download the correct driver for your printer. (I wish you had provided the model of your printer)
  • I think this should be your particular driver: Download Link2
  • Furthermore you can check the driver from the supported models for Linux from the URL Download Link3
  • .Now double click the downloaded file to start and complete the installation.
  • After the installation is completed you will notice an icon called “Turboprintcontrol”, click or open it.
  • Press the + button to open the ADDPRINTER dialogue and select your printer from the list of ports, also confirm that the correct driver is selected.
  • Now print a test page
  • Please ensure that you have GTK+ 2.0 libraries available in your fedora installation, as this is the prerequisite of turboprint
  • Also type “system-config-services” and look for the cups. All the CUPS options should be checked.
