Software as a Service (SaaS) is a model of software delivery where the vendor develops a web-based software application, then it is hosted in the cloud (remotely) by the vendor for the use of its customers.

 

The software company provides or gives maintenance, and support for the software provided to the client. SaaS is also called as "on-demand software" because the software and the related data ate hosted on the cloud. It is usually accessed by users via a browser.

 

Many business applications have used SaaS as a common model in the delivery, like CRM, MIS, ERP, HRM, and CM among others. SaaS is opposed to the traditional method where software vendors develop and sell application packages to customers, although this model still accounts for most software acquisitions.

 

Notable benefits of SaaS.

 

Hosted Remotely reduces the additional hardware investment on users.

 

Regular updates applications are updated often in regular intervals.

 

Open integration protocols offers integration protocols and APIs.

 

Collaborative and/or "social" functionality allows user to share and collaborate with other users.
