I received an error in iTunes with my Mac PC. It is stating “The required file was not found or has a permissions error. Correct this permissions problem and try again, or unauthorized this computer if the permissions cannot be changed. ” How can I be able to fix it?

Dear Alwyn white,

According to apple iTunes support page, a missing folder or incorrect permissions may prevent authorization and cause the error message you got. In order to resolve this problem for you Mac OS X, please follow these steps:

  • Log onto your pc using an administrator account.
  • In the Finder, choose "Go to Folder" from the "Go" menu.
  • Then, type "/Users" and clock "Go".
  • If the shared folder exist:
  • Open a terminal, if your Mac OS X is version 10.5.8 or earlier, use this command: sudo chmod -R 777 /Users/Shared, if version 1.06 or later, use this command: sudo chmod -R 1777 /Users/Shared.
  • Press return and quit the terminal window.
  • If the shared folder doesn't exist:
  • Open a terminal, type this command: sudo mkdir -p /Users/Shared/ and press return and input your administrator password if you are prompted to do.
  • If your Mac OS X is version 10.5.8 or earlier, use this command: sudo chmod -R 777 /Users/Shared, if version 1.06 or later, use this command: sudo chmod -R 1777 /Users/Shared.
  • Press return and quit the terminal window.

Hope this may help you.

Best of luck.

Permissions Error in iTunes with Mac

Hi Alwyn,

Make sure you have admin rights using your mac, and now try updating your iTunes if you have not done this, this problem is been included in the mac forum, many were complaining about this error, by now apple might have launched the updates for resolving this, update your iTunes to the latest and then try it.

If it didn't  then the problem must be of your file you are trying to open, make sure the attributes if your file is in right way and if not clear it and then try. If it didn't again then try to open that file using any other tool other than iTunes then if it crashes or shows some error then the problem is with that file, replace it.

Hope that helps to solve the problem.
