Opening a huge folder takes time?

It takes me a while longer to open a folder in my portable computer that has the latest Windows operating system and processor installed. The size of the folder is quite big consisting of a thousand files. The folder eventually opens, but I would like to ask if this is really what happens given the circumstances or is this a problem that I need to resolve?

Windows 7 usually cache all thumbnails on folders when we open it. So if you have a folder with large file of music, photos or documents, it may take its time to load. Windows 7 delete the cache of the folder and rebuild it every time users change the data inside the folder.

You can try to speed up the loading time by changing the Optimization settings of the folder. You can do this by right clicking the folder > choose properties > Customize tab > under ‘Optimize this folder for:’ choose the content of the folder (i.e. if folder contains pictures, choose pictures) > hit Ok.
