If I'm not mistaken LCD/LED are using backlight in order to see the screen content while the OLED is not using backlight every pixel has its own light. this new generation of pixels can deliver a more realistic and good quality of image.

Enter the OLED (organic light-emitting diode). OLEDs solve the major problem concerning LEDs. The cost. Again, there is a flip side! OLEDs aint efficient enough not even half as efficient as LEDs. Compared to the stellar performance of the LED in that department, OLED manages to convert only about 25% of energy it receives to ambient light. This is according to a recent  study by the University if Utah Wondering why LED lightning has still not caught the fancy of the common man? Read on.

LEDs are known for their high-energy efficiency. Almost 70% energy passed on to them can be converted to light. Although that may sound like music to your friendly, neighbourhood environmentalist, there is a flip side. LEDs are expensive to make. Which is why the shift from fluorescent lightning to LED hasn't t taken off really. Apart from being seen on high-end cars and selected commercial applications, LED lightning is struggling to keep its head out of water. And why not? I would be happy to live with my energy efficient CFL rather than getting myself a 1000-rupee LED lamp.
