I have got an old  imac that I would to use for music storage and possible streaming.  I'm a little stumped as to which cables I would and if I would need to stick with ieth SnowLeopard or Windows 7 on my laptop and just windows 7 on my desktop.

As I'd like most likely be able rotate the music would it better to only upload a small portion at a tie?

I'm currently running panther on the imac.

It still fully functional.

Hi Laniesh,

For you to successfully set up your imac as a music server you need to check your Airport express which will enable you to get your music shared over a network. Then you can use the cheap option of chicken-of -the-VNC-Client which will allow you to do your installation and satisfy your needs the other option of Apple remote desktop is too expensive.

To set this up go to the system preferences, in the sharing panel find the Apple remote desktop it is usually under the services tab then enable it. Also enable the VNC viewer and then set a password. Then launch the Chicken-of- the-VNC  on your machine you will see a connecting dialog with a list of servers and machines the machine you have just enabled should be one of them.

Select it then enter the password you created and connect. At this point you machine can start serving you.
