Hello man,

I am a user of Windows 7. I am getting a problem for a long time. It is like this. When I browse through some specific folder my Explorer hangs and the mouse don’t move anymore. I have to restart my PC. Specifically these folders are video files folder. If I use any other program than Explorer to browse that directory then I don’t face any other problem.

What do I do?

Windows Explorer hangs when browsing folder with videos

I have faced this problems few times ago. I search through the web and at last I reached at the end. That is your video files are responsible for this. When you download some files if the data bits is not transferred properly then that files become corrupted. If this occur for any video file then when you play it that file shows some tiles where it is corrupted.

Now why the explorer hangs, this question’s answer is hidden here. When you browse through your folder using explorer it makes the thumbnails for that file. If it is a video file then it tries to create an image thumbnail for that. In that time if the file is corrupted then the explorer hangs and do not respond. You can solve this with two options.

First, you can delete the corrupted files that make the explorer hangs. If those files are important for you then you can take this second choice. Open to folder and search option from organize button in your windows. Then go to view and select the option “Always show icons, never thumbnails” option. It will prevent to generate thumbnails for any files. Now you can browse through those folder safely.
