Hello Gurus!

I was editing my Excel file when suddenly this message popped up. 

I wasn’t able to save but had entered a lot of data already. My file was recovered, thank God. 

However, while I was editing the same file, this error message popped up again and has happened many times. 

I think there’s something wrong with my Excel software. 

Do I need to re-install MS Excel?

Yes, you really need to. Usually, in any kind of software when they are acting strange there is a problem.

Sometimes they show unpredictable program errors like this one and there are times they run extremely slow.

Sometimes your work was not saved or is incomplete even if you save it manually.

But do not uninstall yet Microsoft Office Excel. Run a disk check first to see if there is something wrong with the file structures in your hard disk.

  1. Right-click on drive C and then choose Properties.
  2. Click the Tools tab.
  3. Click the Check Now button.
  4. Choose Automatically fix file system errors from the options and then hit the Start button.

Wait for the disk check to finish then restart your computer. After Windows has booted launch Microsoft Excel and try doing the file again. Be sure to have a back up of the file in case something goes wrong again. See if that error will come back again. If the error is still present, you may now uninstall Microsoft Office Excel. There is really something wrong with the program.
