I am a little naïve when it comes to using Excel. I have created many sheets and have been coming across the problem of sorting the data by date. Can anyone help me with that?

Firstly you have to select the column containing the date and time data which you have to sort. You should check beforehand that this is the only active column in the sheet. Then click on the “Data” tab that appears in the menu bar just below the title bar. There is a Sort & Filter box in there. Click on either this  (from newest to oldest) or this (from oldest to newest) to sort the data. To reapply the changes, you can also click on Reapply option in the Sort & Filter box.
Note: The data should be in proper date and time format. If it is not, i.e. in some other form as “text” then Excel might get a confusing situation and will not be able to order the data in a proper way and won’t give the desired results.
