Error on opening movie on Quicktime

Hi,

While I was at home on the week end, I received a postal package from a relative. It contained a compact disk of video clips, taken from our family reunion. When I wanted to play it using QuickTime 7, I could not play it, because there was an error.

The error message tells me the movies could not be opened.

Error opening movie

The movie could not be opened.

When I read the error, I thought first that the CD was defective. When I checked it, the CD is very much OK. I restarted my computer, after Windows home booted up, I tried opening the file again. Same thing, it cannot be played since same error appeared.

Please help me to view this video.

Thanks.

Dear Thomas,

There are many possible reasons for this error and you should check them one by one. Okay?

1. It's possible that what ever movie you want to play may not be supported by QuickTime 7 player. Try some other software for opening of said movies.

2. May be your CD is corrupt, try to open that CD from another computer.

3. Copy these movies into your hard drive from CD. If copies done, then your CD is OK and the problem is with your QuickTime player. So replace the software.

Hope its work

Thanks.

This problem has many reasons, like during the burning process that CD may have been corrupted, CD might have been ruined or damaged.

Another problem is format of the movie. Usually format is the error, so better check the format of the movie before playing it. To check the format, right click on the movie clip; then properties; then on general tab; read the type of file and then check if that format is supported by QuickTime 7.

If not supported, try to use very useful media player, VLC; which I've been using from this site http://www.videolan.org/vlc/.

This type can read any format , I mean almost all formats of movie clips you want to play.

Dear Thomas,

1) Please check the file extension of the video clips. Are they compatible with Quick Time? Use another media to open files like total player.

2) Although I run Quick Time on my Mac, I have faced several instances of quick time file being corrupted due to header corruption, volumes corruption or due to movement corruption. You may try a repair tool to fix your corrupted file and then run on Quick Time.

Thanks.
