[Moodle] How to setup Moodle on Windows (and possibly Linux)?

My requirement is to implement the best version of Moodle as a course management system, with a web hosting service that already has Linux, Apache and MySQL.

I'm thinking of starting this on Windows.  Is Moodle installed just like common software (via Windows Install), or is it a much complicated process?  I'm also considering Linux.  Is it better to start with the latter?  Thanks ahead for the help.

Hi Emimayer,

If you are going to install Moodle on a small server for about less than 30 users or just to your computer, there are pre built packages for that setup. You can go here for the complete installation packages for Windows http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Complete_install_packages_for_Windows. Here is a guide you can use for the Windows installation using XAMPP http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Windows_installation_using_XAMPP while installation guide using EasyPHP can be found here http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Installation_guide_for_Windows_using_EasyPHP.

If you are going to install it on a large network, it is best to install it on the server directly. You can view here on the steps you need to undertake if you would be installing it on a large environment http://docs.moodle.org/22/en/Windows_installation.
