I want to migrate domain to a forest which has single domain. The ADMT is to be used, and I have doubts that FQDN will change.

Migration of domains – Single Forest

Hallo Dale Blitz,

So just to be clear, will you also need to migrate the mailboxes only or you will want you migrate both the users and the mailboxes to the new forest account?

You will need to determine the type of the service accounts that are used to run the services on the servers that you will migrate to. Another thing that you will be needed to determine is the group policy changes in case there will be any. You will then create your new forest or domain that has all things that you may need prior to the migration. Then you will use the following order when migrating for everything to work out well:

  • First start with the Service Accounts and in your case ensure that you do the testing.
  • Next move the Global Groups followed by the Domain Local Groups.
  • And thereafter migrate the Users and then finish with the Servers and workstations.
