I want to migrate from my old server to the new Exchange server. I have already transferred the users SIDs to the new server. Is there anything that I need to consider while migrating from one server to another other than following the instructions to transfer the mailbox?

The following is what you will need to do when migrating from the old server to the new exchange server:

  • First of all, you will need to prepare the domain with adprep from the new MS Exchange install disk, and after that you will add the  new MS Exchange as member server to the domain.
  • Thereafter, you will need to make in the DNS of the old exchange DC ADintegrated zones, and then you will run dcpromo on the new one, make it DNS server and let DNS replicate.
  • The next step will be to move the FSMO roles to the new server, and you will make sure that you it Global catalog server.
  • And then you will configure the clients so that they will be able to use the new server for DNS.
  • You will get robocopy from MS resource kit you can and then use it to copy the files including the permissions to the new server.
