Hello! I got this message, error 0×80070057 while making a new partition on my computer. I am using Windows 7 as an operating system for my computer. I am not very good with computers but I have noticed that the system is running very slow lately.

Do you think my computer is infected with any virus?  What is you advise to solve this problem on my own? Thank you!

During installation of windows 7, software creates a number of registry keys in the folder of HKLMSoftwareMicrosoftdasetup. Windows 7 is a large operating system so that it contains a large amount of data.

Obviously, this can hinder performance and cause the 0×80070057 error if the registry cannot accept more data in these values. you will need to do is create more virtual memory.

Virtual memory is essentially a memory manager on your PC, so that it distributes the various physical memory, RAM and hard drive, to the relevant parts of the system. To increase the virtual memories follow the steps bellows.

  • Click Start > Control Panel > System and Security> Click on System
  • Click on “Advanced System Settings” and click on “Performance Settings…”
  • Under virtual memory, click Change
  • In the virtual memory dialog box, change the registry size

This will give more virtual memory for the system and hence give it greater capacity to deal with larger registry values. This should fix the 0×80070057 error

Clean out the Registry

The ‘registry’ is one of the causes of the 0×80070057 error, and continually making your PC run slowly & with errors as a result. Registry is a big database inside the Windows system, which stores vital settings, options and information for your computer.

It’s where your system & all your software stored settings that your computer requires to run. The problem is that Windows often uses this database so much that it saves many parts of it in the wrong way, causing it to become damaged & corrupted.

To ensure this is not a problem, it’s recommended you use a ‘registry cleaner’ program to scan through your PC and repair the various errors that could be causing a problem

A lot of Windows users encounter error code 0x80070057. Some are using Windows 8 and some are using Windows 7. I guess the possible cause would be the format of the video or image you are loading into Microsoft Movie Maker. That is, if you are doing something in Windows Movie Maker.

Many media formats are reportedly compatible with different versions of Microsoft Movie Maker but the most reliable formats you can select are the following:

  • For pictures – either BMP or JPG
  • For videos – WMV
  • For audio – either WMA or WAV

Another possible reason for this error is an outdated video driver. Try updating your video card’s driver. If you are into NVIDIA, visit NVIDIA Driver Downloads. Here, set the correct information about your hardware to search for an updated driver. If you are using an ATI Radeon or AMD graphics adapter, visit Download AMD Radeon Software.

If you are using a built-in graphics adapter from Intel, visit Intel Download Center. For users with Matrox graphics adapter, visit Matrox Driver and Software Download. But if you triggered the error while attempting to create a new partition on your computer and you noticed your system is becoming slow, try scanning your computer. Download Sophos Virus Removal Tool and install it.

Once installed, start Sophos then wait until it is finished updating its virus definitions and then click “Scan.” The program will scan everything on your computer including devices connected to your USB ports. When a virus is found at the end of the scan, remove it and then repeat the scan until it no longer detects a virus.

When the machine is clean, try creating a new partition again and see if it works.
