Installing software from terminal needs super user privileges. It is possible that while installing software using commands you have modified bootstrap or bootloader.

Use live disk (Linux Mint 11 or Ubuntu 11.04) and run  fsck on drive holding LInux you can also use gpatred to fix any disk related problems.

To fix the problem you need to reinstall GRUB (default bootloader) or fix the bootstrap.

The easiest option is to boot your computer using live disk, backup your data and then reinstall Linux Mint 11 katya

Hello there,

The first thing is, if you can remember which package or software you installed than try uninstalling that once. If that does not work than try to reinstall bootloader. But I think it is better to make a copy of fresh grub from its installation disk and copy that into its boot directory and reboot the system. I am pretty sure that it will work as newly installed.

Thank you,
