Hey,

I had a similar problem with my Windows Updates as you are having. I was able to fix it as well. Actually, my error turned out to be a hardware issue.  One of my data drive (H:) was failing, and also, some of the bug fixes that were suggested here and there failed because of the I/O errors on that particular disk.  Even though, I am still not sure why the solutions need to read/write to that disk only instead of just my OS/C: drive, but, the truth is that they were failing.

After replacing the disk, I ghosted the data to the new drive. Though, the original problem remained there, but the fixes stopped breaking. Finally, this one solutionfixed my error:

If you receive “error 800f081f” when running Windows Update, the first option is to use the Update Repair Tool. Download the Windows Update Repair Tool and then run it. Click “Next” then wait until the tool finishes fixing the errors. It will automatically fix the errors. Once it is finished, close the program and try installing the update again.

See if it works. Alternatively, if this doesn’t fix the problem, you can use the System Update Readiness Tool. Go to Fix Windows Update Errors using DISM for a complete list of operating systems supported by the tool. Download the program appropriate to your operating system and run it. When it is finished, try running Windows Update again and see if it works.

Installing Service Packs and Windows updates may fail if there are corruption errors.
