We basically define it as smaller is the standard deviation closer will be the score grouped around the mean and less will be the amount of variation. Reliability of test is another estimate to this. The reliability coeff. indicates the heaviness of consistency formed by the test. If you try to subtract the reliability coeff. from 1, you are going to get the heaviness of inconsistency.
