It shows error while I re-install the same antivirus.

I am using Windows Xp SP2 with 80GB hard disc and 2GB ram.

Yesterday I decided to upgrade my Antivirus and uninstall the previous version of Symantec Antivirus.

I tried many times, but it keeps on messaging "cannot complete the setup" after a small process during the setup program.

Do I need to format my system to install it or there is other options also?

Your question lacks some necessary information. Well, I will try my level best to give you a possible better solution. First, let me ask you something. Have you restarted the PC for the purpose of reinstalling? If not, then I will surely recommend you to restart the machine after removing the previous version. Then after the restarting operation, try to install the fresh updated version.

Also, there might be problem regarding system requirements. So, it is better that you should check the system requirements of your new antivirus.

Also, check for possible disk space available in your machine so that you will leave enough space after the installation.

If you were able to successfully uninstall the old Symantec Antivirus and you are now in the process of installing the new antivirus on your system, if both the old and the new antivirus programs are from Symantec, you don’t have to do a separate un-installation for the old version. The new version will automatically uninstall the old version during the installation process.

If they are both from Symantec and you already uninstalled the old version, install it again on your computer then restart the system when asked. When the old version is already installed and running on your computer, launch the installer or the setup file of the new version to start the setup process. During the setup process, the new version will detect that another Symantec product is currently running in your system.

It will now start uninstalling the old Symantec product. When the old version was successfully removed it will automatically start the installation for the new version. Just wait for the process to finish then update the antivirus.
