Hello,

I am working on an online job and I am using Internet broadband for my computer desktop. My brother got an online job too. He has a laptop but he does not have Internet connection.

He asked me if I  can share my internet connection with him as he doesn't have money for another connection.
The problem is, I don't have any idea how to share my internet connection with him.

Some say that I need to buy hub/router. Guys, if I buy hub/router, please tell me the methods for settings and how to shared my internet connection with my brother and also what he Needs to set on his laptop.

Thanks in advance.

Dear Aarden,

I agree with them that you need to buy a switch / hub/ router.  Most of the time the hub is not a good choice.

The router is the best choice.

Buy a switch of 2/4 or 5 ports. At one end connect the internet connection , in the other parts you will get 2 output from the switch. This allows you to  share the internet with two computers.

You can buy a router, but management is a little bit trickier than the switch. So switch is the best choice for you.

Dear Aarden,

There are several methods to connect your brother's PC to the internet.

What i am going to tell you is the most straight-forward approach. You buy a dedicated broadband hub/router. Your PC as well as your brother's laptop is going to be connected using the Ethernet port(s) of the broadband router. Mine has 4 Ethernet ports, so that means I can share internet connections for up to 4 computers, using the broadband router as gateway.

Setting up the hardware is nothing short of a piece of cake, since it will automatically detect necessary settings for you and will usually set up your home network for you too.  Then another hardware requirement you need to buy is ETHERNET CABLE. Your computer as well as your brother's is connected to the hub/router using Ethernet cable. The cable length must be long enough to connect your home computers, but should not be longer than 90m. So better keep your brother's laptop within that distance.

Hope that helps.

Regards.

Roger

Hi Aarden,

You can share the internet connection with your brother by using local area connection.  For doing this you only need an Ethernet cable to connect the two computers by local area connection.

To set up a local area connection; go to the network and sharing center of your computer. Then go to ‘change adapter setting’. Select Local Area Connection icon. Then go to its property. Double click on internet protocol version 4. Then fill the entire box with necessary information. Click okay.

After connecting the two computers by local area connection, go to the proxy set up in Firefox in your brother’s computer. Then give your IP address for proxy use. Thus you can easily share your internet connection between two computers.

Dear, sharing is a very easy process.  You can use a 2Router or you can use switch/hub to share between two systems.

When you will buy a switch, what you have to do is; connect the wires, such that the main will come in the router/switch and two more will go to two computers as per your requirement.

Now follow these steps:

Go to my network places and right click on “view network connections “after that click bridge connection. You can also select the properties and then in that you have to select the file and printer sharing.

Keep in mind that the NET is only being shared, if the company whose services you are using allows that.

So contact you Internet Service Provider.
