I am in need of a capture software for my Mac since I need to capture arbitrary regions I could use it every now and then.

Your question kind of confuse me. What do you mean information capture? Do you mean you are looking on capturing anything from your screen?
If that's the case then its very easy. You don't need a program or an application to do it. I am using a Mac too so I really know how to do it.
If you want to capture you're full screen: Shift + Command + 3
If you want to capture specific part of the screen: Â Shift + Command + 4
Your captures will be automatically saved as screenshots on your desktop.
