Hi Experts,

I received an error message while installing iTunes on my machine. It has stopped installation throwing the error message. Have you any idea for the Application Data? I do not understand the message. Please help me to get a remedy of this issue.

Thanks in advance.

Please wait while Windows configures iTunes

The folder path ‘Application Data’ contains an invalid character.

May be your the folder iTunes software stores application related data is corrupted or misguided somehow. You can do the following things to resolve this issue:

  1. Click OK when the message comes
  2. Go to My Documents folder
  3. From the menu, choose Tools>Folder Options>View
  4. Check show hidden files and folders
  5. Quit iTunes
  6. Delete C:Documents and Settings<your username>Application DataApple ComputeriTunesiTunes.pref and/or iTunesPrefs.xml

Hope this will work.

Hello Martin,

The error may be occurring because the iTunes version that you are trying to install on your system is corrupt. You will therefore need to download another version from a different site, a trusted site, and then try installing it and see if it will work. I hope that helps.

Regards,

Nicke

The path to folder Application Data contains invalid character, this happens when the folder path in the registry contains invalid character or an invalid character in your profile path, to check the register for invalid character to the following;

1.       Click start -> Run.

2.       Type “regedit”.

3.       The registry window will appear.

4.       In the Edit Menu click Find.

5.       In the Find dialog Box type “Application Data”.

6.       In the resulting query, check to see if the Application Data value contains invalid characters.

7.       If you found invalid character correct it as to match the value above.
