Hi Cyrus,

I recommend you to use Spiceworks PC inventory. It can generate a lot of variety reports, secured and stores network data locally. It is compatible with LINUX, MAC AND WINDOWS. You can view services, patches, software and most of all you can track service tags, locations and licensing. Spiceworks is being used by all professionals and industries worldwide like constructions, human resources, IT service, non profit organization, retail, marketing, aerospace and a lot more.

System requirements:
Processor should be 1.5GHz pentium 4
Good for windows 7, windows vista, windows xp pro sp2+

Note that safari and Google chrome browser are not supported by spiceworks but firefox and internet explorer is good. This will be very helpful to gather data in your network.

If you are looking for a program that you can use to create an inventory of what’s inside your computer, you can use WinAudit. It is an inventory utility for Microsoft Windows that is able to create a comprehensive report about a computer’s configuration, hardware, and software. The utility is free, open-source which you can use as well as distribute to anyone.

You can download the latest version from WinAudit Home. IT experts from the government, academia, and industry including security conscious professionals in the armed forces, police forces, defense contractors, and electricity generators use this program. An alternative to WinAudit is Express Software Manager. Unlike the WinAudit utility, Express Software Manager is not free if you are to create an inventory of more than 1,000 machines.

It is free up to 1,000 computers though. If you need to create inventories of 2,000 computers, for example, visit their page to get pricing. This is best used for companies with large number of machines. Express Software Manager offers comprehensive hardware and software asset discovery of what is deployed on your organization.

It is capable of discovering all the hardware and software on your Windows-based or OS X-based computers and brings together discovered assets with purchasing data so you can be aware of what’s installed, who it was, and if it is properly licensed.
