Hi!

I reformatted my laptop and the wlan doesn’t seem to work properly anymore. I downloaded the official lenovo driver from their site but it doesn't seem to work either. It turns on but doesn't connect. My laptop is an Ideapad Y450 and running Windows 7 32bit. Do you know why this is happening? Thanks for the help.

The driver you have downloaded might be an older version then required for your laptop hardware. You can follow these steps to solve the issue. (You must have access to internet via Ethernet or some USB)

  • On your desktop navigate to “Computer” icon and choose Properties after right click on it.
  • On the left side click on Device Manager.
  • If security alert appears click on continue.
  • Under Network Adapters tap choose your WIFI hardware name and click on properties.
  • On the driver tab click on Update Driver and update it through internet. (The best driver will be installed)

If still the problem appears, try consulting some hardware consultant.

Hi,

Please verify the following steps in order to troubleshoot wireless related issues.
1. Inspect the wires that are plugged in to the router and wires coming from the main.Verify whether the power cord is connected and switched on and all the lights of the router and modem are lit.
2. Check whether the wireless network adapter is switched on or not. Some laptops have a red or blue button while in others you need to enable it in the operating system.
3. Check whether the wireless network adapter is enabled or disabled.
4. Re install the device driver.
5. If the wireless adapter is a PCMCIA or USB, then remove the adapter and insert it back so that windows will detect it again.
6. Check if any other wireless devices cause interference. The different possible cause can be wireless telephones or intercoms.
7.Change the channel used by the network or that used by the devices.
8. Install the latest vendor provided drivers and configuration utility before plugging in the device.
9. Update the firmware of the wireless router or AP.(To update the firmware visit the manufacturer's website and download the latest firmware for your AP and follow the instructions provided.)
