Whenever I attempt to copy files from a CD into the hard disk, the copying process starts well. But when about 5 sec. are left for the copy process to complete, the copying fails and the error message, "error copying file to the folder" appears.

Error copying File or Folder

Cannot copy article3: Data error (Cycle redundancy check.)

Please help.

There are several reasons due to which you can not attempt to copy files into the hard disk.

First of all you must be sure that there is enough space in your hard disk to copy these files into it. Second there is a chance that your CD might be not very clear or it has some scratch on it. The reason is that if a CD has some scratches on its surface, then it may create problems in reading.

Also there may be a problem of reading in your CD Rom drive. Because if your CD Rom’s lens is week or not clear due to dust, it can not read the CD properly.

My great friend Newgeek,

The reason as to why you see the data error "Cyclic Redundancy Check " is simply because your CD has a scratch somewhere.  However small the scratch may be, it can cause a file or two to be corrupt and hence the appearance of the error notification. To resolve this error, the data on the CD has to be recovered and there are a number of data recovery software in the market.

One of them is called CD CHECK.  With this software you can recover the data on the CD. CD check is also a good software for data recovery. These software programs can be found on the Internet for download.
