Rundll32.exe is you can call a process which kind of extracts and executes all the  DLL’s required to run a particular software or program and places them in a library so that they are accessed more efficiently by the programs while their execution. Now, this program is very important for your computers well being and it is necessary that it is legitimate and not a virus, So ensure that first.

Now here the  WHP Rundll32  has stopped working is a most commonly found issue in computers nowadays.

And if you get this error more often try the following few troubleshooting steps.

Step 1: Before everything, make sure that your Windows is fully updated.

Step 2: Now try this and see if it helps,

Go to Control Panel, Folder Options, select always show Icons, Never Thumbnails

Step 3: Now remember when did this error actually start appearing ? was it after you installed some program? Then try to update or reinstall that program.

Step 4: Programs like Intel Viiv  and the K-lite Codec Pack are also known to have to cause this problem in many PC’s so if you have them installed on your computer, try uninstalling them and see if it helps.

Step 5: Try disabling Data Execution Prevention on your computer by executing the following command in cmd

bcdedit.exe /set {current} no AlwaysOff

Now what it does is allow all the third party software or programs to access your internet or other resources which Windows might have been blocking.

Step 6: As the last resort try running  Microsoft Windows File and Folder Troubleshooter which will point out all the issues on your PC.

I am sure that any of this steps will solve this issue.

Literally, I haven’t encountered this error yet since I learned how to use a computer back in my student days. The main function of the “rundll32.exe” program is to launch functionality in shared DLL files. Since most applications require DLL files to work properly and there’s no way to launch a DLL file directly, the “rundll32.exe” application is used.

DLL files contain pieces of application logic which are accessible from multiple applications. The “rundll32.exe” application is a valid Microsoft Windows component. One possible cause of the error is corruption in the system files and one way of fixing it is to run the Windows File Checker utility.

In Windows Vista, click “Start”, “All Programs”, “Accessories” then right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator” to launch an elevated command prompt. In the command prompt window, type without quotes “sfc /scannow” then hit Enter. Insert your Windows Vista setup disc on your optical drive and continue. When it is finished, restart your computer and see if it works.
