I am unable to use Windows Defender on my Windows 10 laptop. I am unable to turn this software on or update it as I get a 0x80004004 error. How can I fix this?

How To Fix Windows Defender Error – 0x80004004?

Follow the methods below to fix Windows Defender error – 0x80004004.

Method 1

If you have any third-party antivirus installed, then you need to uninstall it or stop its services and then try to turn on Windows Defender. To uninstall any application, follow these steps-

a. Press Windows + R.
b. Type appwiz.cpl.

c. Select your software and right-click on it.
d. Click on uninstall.

Method 2

a. Search services in the Windows search box and open it as administrator.

b. Double click on Windows Defender Firewall.
c. Set the startup type as automatic.
d. Apply->Ok.
e. Restart your device; your error will no longer exist.
