Solution 1:

Reboot the PC to end all the running processes of chrome.

Solution 2:

A better way is to use Task Manager and stop some of the activities as follows:

1. Shut down the Google Chrome browser if it is running.
2. Shortcut to open the Task Manager in Windows is Ctrl+Shift+Esc, click on it.

3. Go to the Details tab in the Task Manager
4. Find and select a process named GoogleUpdate.exe and then click on the End Task button to terminate this process.
5. Repeat the above step to terminate other possible processes related to Google Chrome like GoogleUpdateOnDemand.exe, GoogleCrashHandler.exe, or GoogleCrashHandler64.exe.
6. Restart the browser and try to update it.
7. Still, if you are not able to update, then reboot your PC and try once more.
