Microsoft Excel Starter 2010 is a preloaded limited version of Microsoft Office. It works as same as other version Office but it has only Word & Excel (Powerpoint, Access etc. are excluded).

To know more about this VISIT: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/starter/

You can not split cell in this version (even in Office 2007). But you can apply a trick with merge cells option. To do it see these links below:

Hey Carol,

To start answering your first question; Microsoft Excel Starter is a free online Web browser version of Office thus making it a bit more limited to all of its abilities.

As for Splitting Cells, that function is not available in Microsoft Excel Starter. You would have to upgrade to the full version to do that.

A small trick that might help you is: Write the content needed to split on a text file in the format you would like it to see in Excel. Save, and open as Excel. It doesn’t always work, but you might be surprised sometimes.

You can always click on “Purchase” which is located in the “Home” tab on the Ribbon if you feel like updating to the full version.
