I have an external hard disk (LaCie little disk 500GB USB 2.0) which has a damaged adapter and for that, I want to install it inside the new PC I'm going to buy. I'm not sure if it will be compatible with my motherboard, but before trying I want to know if after the installation I'm going to lose my files. I've done some search, but I found no accurate results.

If someone has an answer, please inform me.

The files of your external HDD will not be erased, when you try to install it in your new PC. You open your external HDD case and take the hard drive out and install it in a computer case as an internal drive.

The files of your Hard Drive will not be erased and will remain unchanged. Just reply to this comment if you need any clarification. I want to also know more about your problem.

Dear fried,

To know a little about the compatibility of your hard disk drive, the connections of your drive are two connections, one for power supply and the other will be connected to the motherboard, you should look into the cable connected to your motherboard and select a motherboard suitable to it, but in any way it can be connected directly or by using another cable.

About your data it will not lost as long as the drive is not damaged.

Hi,

It is very easy to configure this external hard disk drive on your system. You don't need any cable to make connection with the Motherboard. First of all you just need to plug in the adopter and there is USB port (white color from inside; as shown in the above picture), plug USB cable in your computer USB port and connect another end at the back of your external hard disk. It is plug and play and ready to use as soon as you connect according to the instructions given above. You don't even need to install any software. There will be no loss of data.

Best of luck.
